Any Place University (APU) needs to redesign its existing male-female restrooms. They’d like a futuristic configuration that takes into account the trends, laws and water restrictions that will affect design in the year 2030 and beyond.
Are you up to the challenge?
Enter Sloan’s Restroom of the Future Design Contest, and you could win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Design Connections conference at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas, October 7–10, 2018.
Plus, your winning design will be featured in an issue of interiors+sources.
What do you have to do? Just knock our socks off with your vision for the commercial restroom of the future.
Design considerations for tomorrow’s commercial restroom
APU is a forward-thinking institution. They want restrooms that don’t just meet today’s standards for user comfort, hygiene and sustainability—they want their restrooms to be cutting-edge in 2030.
Oh, and they want them to be drop-dead gorgeous, too.
Your task: Design a space that utilizes updated aesthetics, technology and products. Your design should take into consideration:
- High traffic
- The need for privacy
- Water conservation
- Energy savings
- Waste reduction
- Codes and regulations under which universities fall, including the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Updated aesthetics
In addition, Sloan water-saving products should be utilized for a minimum of one (1) specification.
How to enter the Restroom of the Future Design Contest
First, visit the Commercial Restroom 2030 Design Contest home page and download a PDF of the restroom template. (This document will also have information for uploading your submission.) This floor plan reflects the layout of the current APU restrooms, built in 1990.
You can change any element of this floor plan except for removing outer walls or support beams. Feel free to change the location and number of fixtures and to move, remove or add interior walls, as long as the overall footprint does not change.
Once you’ve designed your trailblazing future restroom, prepare your submission. Your PDFs or Word docs should include:
- A scale floor plan of the updated design.
- A list of specified materials with a minimum of one (1) specified Sloan product. (Please refrain from using other brand names or manufacturers when listing or designing the restroom’s specifications.)
- An explanation of your design and reasoning, in a maximum of 1,000 words.
Finally, submit your entry according to the instructions on the template PDF no later than Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. CT.
A panel of judges from Sloan and interiors+sources will announce the winner online on August 3, 2018.
If that winner is you, you’ll win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Design Connections conference, where you can meet with elite industry professionals and participate in discussions and keynote events that give you an in-depth look at what’s happening in the industry. And ... this might be the best part ... you’ll also win spa treatments valued at $500.
So download the template today and get started! Submissions are due Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. CT—and the commercial restroom design of the future is in your hands!
