Sloan Helping Michigan Schools Deliver Clean Drinking Water as Part of Michigan Filter First Legislation
Sloan, the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems, is supporting schools across the state of Michigan as they work to meet Michigan Filter First Legislation compliance in order to protect children statewide from exposure to lead in drinking water.
Local Sloan representatives across the state are assisting schools as they decide which filtered Sloan DropSpot™ Bottle Fillers and Water Coolers—as well as NSF-61 compliant faucets—work best to support their clean drinking water efforts.
Signed into law on Oct. 24, 2023, the Clean Drinking Water Access Act, and amendments to the Child Care Organizations Act—collectively known as the Michigan Filter First Legislation— requires all Michigan public schools and daycare centers to install bottle fillers with PFOS filters by the end of the 2025-26 school year.
Many Michigan school districts are using buildings with aging infrastructure built before the 2014 Federal Safe Water Drinking Act (No/Low Lead Law for plumbing products), requiring updates to provide water free of potentially harmful contaminants.
“Safe drinking water is an essential competent to the health of Michigan students across the state,” said Iris Liang, Sloan Bottle Filler and Cooler Product Line Manager. “At Sloan, we’re proud to help schools become Filter First compliant with our bottle fillers, water coolers, and NSF-61 faucets to help create a healthier learning environment.”
Sloan DropSpot Bottle Fillers and Water Coolers meet and exceed Filter First standards, including NSF/ANSI 53 and 42 certifications for lead and particulate reduction. They also reduce PFOA and PFOS, the two most widely used chemicals in the PFAS group. Additional features including filter status indicators, integrated antimicrobial bubblers, and adaptable installation options help deliver enhanced hygienic and facility maintenance benefits.
