Notre Dame Stadium is a symbol of collegiate pride and excellence, standing as both the heart of campus life and the pinnacle of college football tradition. The University of Notre Dame's Campus Crossroads Project (CCP), the largest building initiative in the university’s history, added over 800,000 square feet of versatile spaces for academics, student life, and hospitality.
These expansions required restroom solutions that would elevate hygiene, minimize water consumption, and support ease of maintenance. Sloan’s extensive product line was uniquely suited to meet these needs, forming the backbone of the project’s sustainability commitment.
Sloan products delivered a profound impact on water conservation for the Campus Crossroads Project. Among the standout fixtures were Sloan's ECOS® 8111 Dual-flush Sensor-activated Flushometers, paired with ST-2459 (wall-mounted) and ST-2029 (floor-mounted) water closets. These flushometers allow a full flush at 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf) or a reduced flush at 1.1 gpf based on user needs.
In addition, Sloan’s Royal® ESS TMO Water Closet and Urinal Flushometers and SU-1009 Washdown Urinals were installed across each phase of the CCP, delivering water-saving benefits to the Duncan Student Center, Notre Dame’s music department in O’Neill Hall, and more. The urinal flushometers use only 0.125 gpf, limiting false flushes with an eight-second arming time.
During a single Notre Dame football game hosting 81,000 fans, these fixtures save an estimated 121,500 gallons of water, equivalent to the daily water use of over 400 average U.S. households.
Hygiene is a critical aspect of high-traffic stadium restrooms. To meet this demand, Sloan delivered Optima® Sensor Faucets, ensuring fully touchless operation. Additionally, Sloan’s BASYS® Faucets were installed in several locations, offering not only hands-free functionality but also personalized detailing with the iconic Notre Dame logo engraved on the crowns. These features empower facility managers to maintain a pristine, hygienic environment while also reinforcing Notre Dame’s branding throughout the project.
Sloan's proprietary SloanTec® Hydrophobic Glaze provided another layer of innovation, applied to all vitreous china fixtures to repel liquids and prevent stains.
Sloan’s Optima EAF-100 Sensor Faucets provided water-efficient and hygienic solutions for the majority of the CCP installations. Sloan’s BASYS EFX-200 Faucets were also specified for the remainder of the CCP projects, installed in buildings such as McCourtney Hall, Jenkins/Nanovic Hall, and parts of the stadium. With their 0.5 gpm and sensor-based, touch-free operation, the BASYS Faucets allowed for above deck access for maintenance and adjustments.
“The Campus Crossroads Project was a historic endeavor for the University. We’re thankful that Sloan was a part of it and excited about its presence in so many of the exciting new facilities on campus.”
