As a wholesale distributor of facility supplies with roots in New York and a national presence supporting Fortune 500 organizations, Tristate Filter continually helps customers improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and embrace emerging building technologies. As Internet of Things (IoT) and connected facility management solutions continue to gain traction across commercial buildings, the company recognized an opportunity to help customers take a more proactive approach to restroom operations.
When Tristate was introduced to Sloan's SC Argus® Pro platform, the team immediately recognized its potential to help customers manage restroom operations more effectively through real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
From the beginning, SC Argus Pro aligned with several key objectives for Tristate and its customers:
Equally important was the confidence Tristate had in working with Sloan.
“One of the reasons we were excited about SC Argus Pro was knowing it came from Sloan. The level of support we've received—from local representatives all the way to executive leadership—has been exceptional,” said Nitim “Tim” Mohan, Principal, Tristate Filter.
A prominent New York City high-rise office building was already deeply committed to sustainability and operational excellence. Despite being nearly a century old, the building had invested heavily in initiatives focused on water conservation, energy performance, occupant wellness, and labor efficiency.
Seeking additional insights into restroom operations, the facility team partnered with Tristate Filter to pilot SC Argus Pro in a single restroom. Initially launched as a one-year evaluation, the pilot quickly demonstrated value across multiple areas.
Using the connected platform, facility teams were able to:
The ability to access real-time data helped transform restroom maintenance from a reactive process to a proactive one. Rather than waiting for issues to occur, teams could make informed decisions based on actual performance data.
The results were compelling enough that the building elected to deploy SC Argus Pro throughout all public restrooms and began offering the solution across its tenant portfolio. What started as a single-restroom pilot evolved into a broader strategy for improving visibility, maintenance planning, and water management across the property.
For a nationwide banking institution, the value proposition looked somewhat different.
While sustainability remained important, facility teams were particularly interested in SC Argus Pro’s ability to identify run-on conditions that could lead to significant infrastructure damage if left undetected. By providing real-time visibility and alerts, SC Argus Pro helps facility teams respond more quickly and reduce the risk of extensive water damage.
In addition to run-on detection capabilities, the facility team was encouraged by the platform's continued evolution and the long-term potential of connected restroom technologies. The organization is currently commissioning SC Argus Pro pilot installations at locations in both New York, New York and Plano, Texas.
In addition, one especially valuable application has been the deployment of connected faucets in lactation rooms.
Unlike traditional restroom fixtures, faucets in these spaces may sit unused for extended periods. Using SC Argus Pro, facility managers were able to program automatic line flushes, triggering water flow for 30 seconds after six hours of inactivity.
This automated flushing approach helps reduce water stagnation and supports broader water quality initiatives by minimizing conditions that can contribute to bacterial growth, including Legionella.
The result is a smarter, more proactive approach to facility management that extends beyond restroom performance and supports broader operational goals.
“Sloan’s SC Argus Pro tells us exactly what needs to be serviced and which parts we’ll need. It saves us time, saves us money, and most importantly, it makes us look good to our customers. They see us as forward-thinking and on the cutting edge.”
