San Diego International Airport (SAN) is a vital economic engine for its region and the busiest single-runway airport in the United States. Serving over 24 million passengers annually, SAN is committed to providing a world-class experience through innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.
As part of a major terminal upgrade, the airport sought restroom solutions that could meet the demands of a high-traffic environment while reflecting its modern aesthetic and ambitious environmental goals. Sloan’s comprehensive restroom solutions proved to be the perfect fit, addressing critical needs for durability, water conservation, and sophisticated design.
A modern airport like SAN needs restroom solutions that are not only functional but also visually appealing, creating a clean and welcoming atmosphere for millions of travelers. To help achieve this vision, the airport specified Sloan’s AER-DEC® Integrated Sink Systems (AD-81000, AD-82000, AD-83000, AD-84000).
The AER-DEC systems combine a soap dispenser, faucet, and hand dryer into a single, cohesive, touch-free unit, creating an uncluttered, modern look that complements the airport's sleek architectural style. With all functions housed at the sink, the systems eliminate water drips on the floor as users move from sink to dryer, keeping the space cleaner and safer.
As a leader in environmental stewardship, SAN has ambitious water conservation goals. And with thousands of daily users, the airport’s restroom fixtures represent a significant opportunity for water savings. That’s why the project team specified Sloan’s water-efficient products to meet strict sustainability requirements without sacrificing performance.
Sloan’s sensor-activated Optima® ETF-880 and BASYS® EFX-200 Deck-mounted Faucets, as well as its reliable ROYAL® 152 ESS TMO SBX Concealed Sensor Water Closet Flushometers and ROYAL 195 ESS TMO SBX Concealed Sensor Urinal Flushometers, were key to this effort. These touch-free fixtures deliver the precise amount of water needed, minimizing waste with every use. This not only lowers utility costs but also reinforces the airport’s commitment to its eco-friendly initiatives, demonstrating that high performance and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.
For a 24/7 facility like SAN, maintenance staff need products that are durable, reliable, and easy to service. Sloan’s solutions are engineered to meet the intense demands of a high-traffic commercial restroom, allowing airport maintenance staff to focus on more pressing day-to-day responsibilities.
The integrated, above-deck design of the AER-DEC systems, featuring the BASYS Faucets and matching ESD-500 Soap Dispensers, simplifies routine tasks like refilling soap and servicing parts. The sinks also feature custom Wilsonart phenolic hinged door enclosures designed to stand up to heavy use and durability requirements.
In addition, Sloan’s ADA-compliant ST-2469 Wall-mounted Water Closets and SU-1019 Washdown Urinals act as the perfect complement to the Sloan flushometers at the airport thanks to their durable, hygienic vitreous china construction and thorough flushing action.
“Working with Sloan gave us confidence that our sustainability and performance goals would be met without compromise. Their innovative products and outstanding support team made them an invaluable partner on this project.”
